Loads of people have come from all around Europe to attend TechEd this week. I met attendees from the United Arab Emirates and Eastern European countries such as Qatar, Ukraine, Russia. I was also really surprised to see such a large Norwegian community coming to get some sun in Madrid!
A popular topic discussion this week was about the ongoing expectations and challenges for System Integrators and end users when deploying Exchange 2013. I had the feeling that people were curious to know more specifically about the availability status of servers in the environment. It seems like the community appreciates the steps that have been taken towards automation, however they would like to understand a bit more on what is behind a restart or red led.
A ton of companies we talked to during the event were talking about SCOM. However, deploying SCOM itself remains a challenge and definitely requires some support from real experts. The tool is perceived as a great "tool box", which I'll admit is definitely right. The difficulty here will be to know who will be able to commit their time to something that requires so much effort.
This shows that GSX is right in offering a very simplified, out-of-the-box complement to SCOM as it is the most critical application on SharePoint and Exchange.
If someone were to ask me if it would be worth it to move to Madrid...I would answer YES without hesitation! The city is incredibly dynamic for the Microsoft community. We met skilled IT pros, great future Partners and, of course, found exciting new projects to start working on...
Did you attend TechEd Europe this week? What else did you find to be a popular discussion?
