What’s the next big trend in businesses today? Mobility. Last Thursday, IBM announced how their new security software solution, MobileFirst, is going to help companies be accessible anytime, anywhere.
Smartphones are now dominating the market, selling faster than PC's. With access to corporate data and services outside the office on your mobile device, it will now be even easier to conduct business from remote locations while staying efficient and informed. This article from Gartner explains how “new capabilities for mobile (geolocation, touch, phone integration, cameras, accelerometers) can support new and innovative use” in the workplace. We are going to see more and more companies adapting to mobile friendly content and this will give them the facility to expand their reach across various platforms such as customer engagement, moblie connections, faster development, increasing productivity, improving service and finally with BYOD.
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is quickly becoming a new method of handling business. The idea behind it is that businesses have been starting to more commonly allow their employees to use personal mobile devices, and it has really caught on. IBM claims that workers can be more productive if you allow them to use their mobile devices at work...And this is something companies cannot ignore. Thus, BYOD was bound to happen considering the fact that mobile phones, tablets, and other devices play such significant roles in our everyday lives.
But there have been various issues in breaching confidentiality at companies who have already adopted the idea of BYOD, which is why we think it’s a good thing that MobileFirst’s security software is hitting the market.
Security is key when considering using new methods to access confidential data via mobile devices. MobileFirst plans to offer companies the capability to create mobile applications, increase productivity, securely manage information and promises to directly enhance relationships with your customers. According to their website, “IBM MobileFirst offers you true end-to-end mobile solutions. Some providers specialize in service offerings; some focus on platform and application development; some offer only mobile security; while others focus just on Mobile Device Management. We bring it all”.
IBM’s recent partnership with AT&T promises for a strong strategic alliance, not to mention their many other recent mobile related acquisitions. They have indicated that there is a massive market for mobile business, and MobileFirst is their main attempt to take the lead in this market from an early stage.
