Collaboration Portfolio Monitoring and Management

If you look at your collaborative solutions in your organization, you will see that you do not use just one tool, you use multiple: Domino for Email, BES for Email to your mobile device, Sametime for shared meetings or you may used a combination of Domino, Traveler, and Sametime, you may even have Exchange, BES, Sametime . Organizations today have a portfolio approach to their IT collaborative tools. No one tool meets all requirements, so there may be many components to an organizations complete collaborative arsenal.

While such diversity of solutions may offer the business the depth of tooling required to meet their business requirements, it can be a nightmare to monitor and configure. Multiple technologies, architectures and versioning can lead to a dramatic overhead in operational support with sometimes the variety of management tools requiring almost as much time and attention as they systems they are monitoring !!

Many of the complex and detailed infrastructure management tools focus on the availability of the system, they do not focus on the level of service that the system is providing. Your Sametime server may be up and running but if users cannot create/attend a meeting then it is not providing any service to the business.

Hence where GSX comes in, we provide one tool that monitors and manages the disparate components of your collaboration portfolio. We monitor and report on the availability and performance of the service that your system is providing to your business.

Are your Exchange / Domino Servers up and running? Yes? Are they delivering Email? Yes? How long on average does it take to deliver emails?

We monitor the system and service of the various components in your collaborative portfolio by a variety of statistical analysis:

  • Server statistics – Hardware performance statistics, disk space, CPU utilization etc.

  • System Statistics – Statistics relevant to the system being monitored, i.e. no of meetings created in Sametime, number of dead mail in domino and exchange mail servers, number of emails routed etc.

  • Custom statistics – Statistics unique to GSX that we have developed with our customers (Availability in business hours, availability with maintenance, availability outside of maintenance etc).

  • Scenario Statistics – We take a common scenario and automate it and repeat it. How long does it take to send an email to a BES Device? How long does it take to replicate a document?

  • Cluster Statistics – If you servers are clustered, the unavailability of one server in the cluster may not impact on the level of service that your customer is experiencing. Not only do we monitor individual servers, we also monitor how they are performing as a cluster.

We at GSX understand that, to successfully manage your collaborative portfolio, from a technical and managerial perspective, you need to be able to take a big picture view, yet easily identify and focus in on detail relevant to you.
