The sites, founded in 1995 as an internal e-commerce division of Weirton Steel Corp., shut down in June after their sponsors, including now bankrupt steel companies Bethlehem and LTV, withdrew their support. MSA, a pioneer in automated database analysis, has packaged MetalSite operations with its own MSA Process Automation Solutions and Services Inc., a steel industry process automation unit. Patrick J. Gallagher, president of MSA MetalSite, said as of Monday morning, 90 items of hot-rolled, cold-rolled and coated-coil products had been placed for sale on the site by JR Metals and Star Metal Sales. Gallagher said he expects most of MetalSite's 150 former participants to return to do business on the site.
