MSA Provides Meltshop Optimization System to MetalTek International's Wisconsin Centrifugal Division

PITTSBURGH, PA - August 13, 2008 - Management Science Associates, Inc.'s (MSA) Metals and Advanced Manufacturing Division has provided a Meltshop Optimization System (MSOS) to MetalTek International's Wisconsin Centrifugal Division of Waukesha, Wisconsin. According to Patrick J. Gallagher, MSA Metals Division Vice President, the MSOS includes heat charge optimization models for MetalTek's bronze and stainless steel meltshop facilities, an alloy addition model, material consumption recording, heat disposition, and reporting. The optimization models used in these applications determine the most cost effective mix of raw materials required to meet the identified chemical, schedule, and residual constraints. The MSOS is integrated with MetalTek's existing business and laboratory system.

"We were excited to work with MetalTek on this project," stated Gallagher. "They are an excellent candidate for MSA's state-of-the-art blending optimization models, which employ the latest techniques in mathematical programming. It is anticipated that the use of these models will generate significant savings for MetalTek in their raw material input costs," Gallagher said.

"MSA's expertise and experience in meltshop optimization were an important consideration when selecting a vendor for this project," explained Mr. Doug Nielsen, Materials Supervisor with MetalTek International. "We have been very impressed with the knowledge and thoroughness of MSA's personnel, enabling a smooth transition to the new system."

MSA's Metals and Advanced Manufacturing Division is a Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based group that specializes in providing complete turnkey computer systems, process control and modeling services, system design, and facility-wide management systems to a variety of process and manufacturing industries. It is perhaps best known for its work in automating steel mills and its Raw Material Data Aggregation Service™ (RMDAS) for steel scrap, but it also provides services for e-commerce, chemical processes, pulp and paper industry, environmental services, laboratory information management, business intelligence, and other applications. The Division has provided such services since 1982.
