While there are a few performance monitoring options available on the market, the level of data granularity and availability of useful, impactful insights varies greatly. Most solutions don’t offer enough detailed metrics and analysis to pinpoint problems (as well as their root causes) quickly; oftentimes, the data isn’t even presented in an easy-to-use, efficient manner. In addition, few solutions are comprehensive enough to test the application environment at every level — including and especially the end-user perspective, which is a critical aspect of performance.

Digital Experience Monitoring and the New Governance of the Cloud
The painting on the wall is clear: the growth of the cloud is a new driver of innovation and projects worldwide. Cloud computing started as a way to improve servers, initially used for development purposes and startups wanting to avoid unnecessary expenses. When IT departments realized the ability for cloud deployments to scale, the cloud became an attractive value proposition. This has allowed IT departments to refocus on value-added tasks, rather than spending days patching servers at data centers.
Much like Google once accelerated learning by popularizing search technology, cloud computing is now accelerating the adoption of new innovations. For example, Artificial Intelligence APIs are now ready for integration into cloud-based platforms.

As APM shifts to DEM, the time is now to focus on end-user experience
The increased complexity of today’s IT infrastructure has made old methods of application performance management insufficient. Previously, simple back-end metrics were enough to measure whether service was being provided to end-users quickly and securely. Today, more sophisticated analytics and measuring tools are required to stay ahead of performance issues to ensure end-user satisfaction.
